Every Piece Matters

Creating a green and clean environment

I promised them a worthy write up and I shall do that. This is the least I can do to show my appreciation for their selfless act of volunteerism to clean up the trash-filled Changi Beach in the early hours on Sunday morning.

Families’ picnics, anglers fishing, children playing with the incoming waves… these are common sight almost every weekend and yet these groups of volunteers, don in their protective suit, hand gloves and tongs, were preoccupied picking up trash along the shore for hours. They do not mind getting dirty and hardly create any attention. A small word of thanks means a lot to them. It is the effort of these unsung heroes that keep our beach clean and safe, where you have a peace of mind when your kids play at the sand bare footed.

Do you know that environmental sustainability and climate change are key concerns globally and Singapore has chartered a green plan with the aim to transform into a greener and more sustainable city by 2030? All of us can play a part in one way or the other, big or small. Stop littering and encourage recycling is definitely something that is achievable among us. Let’s do our part, set a good example for the next generation and together, we can create a sustainable eco-friendly environment. Every piece matters!
